USC: Visiting Artist Lecture

Guest lecturer in Global Art, Design and Visual Culture Since 1960.

Observing shifting technologies, approaches and interests, as well as dynamics of power, visibility and consumption, the course deepens into creative practice at the meeting points of images, ideology and the shaping of meaning. Taking the photographic as an entry point to these conversations, we observe significant shifts in both content and production, addressing various issues, including photography’s role in shaping national and personal identities, and the ways in which visual images have been used to decenter narratives around identities and the presentation of bodies.

Each week we explore a different theme, idea or creative moment, as part of a week devoted to dismantling the archive, and shaping counter narratives.
