Hood Museum

News: Fall 2019

The Hood Museum has acquired Nightfall 1, shot in 2006 and printed in 2019. The tree was created to stand in for the many unmarked lynching sites in Los Angeles and statewide, and is part of the Searching for California Hang Trees Series, which includes trees that have been well- documented, trees that are possible lynching sites, and trees that stand in for missing lynching sites. The project was created to emphasize Gonzales-Day’s performative journey across the state of California looking for historical sites.
