Amelia Jones will be hosting a Fall of Freedom event featuring a walkthrough of “Ken Gonzales-Day: History’s ‘Nevermade’” with the artist, followed by a conversation/teach-in about the power of art and freedom of speech.
How can art make a difference? With “Art’s Redress” we will view and discuss Ken Gonzales-Day’s work at his survey exhibition ‘Ken Gonzales-Day: History’s “Nevermade with a post walkthrough teach-in on the role of art in addressing/redressing structural racism and homophobia in Euro-American history, culture, and institutions. The artist will be present. Meeting at the historic Rose Garden in LA’s Expo Park, we will also address the politics of rose gardens today and make a potential side trip to the adjacent Sadie Barnett mural at the California African American Museum to expand the conversation about art’s redress.
